A lovely show about a teenage girl that opens a mystical box and gets transported to a world of frogs. There are giant and violent birds, giant bugs and talking frogs. It's a kids show but it is definitely fleshed out and the worldbuilding is great. In the background of things, you can tell lots of things are going on.
Anne seems to be a regular teenager and she wants acceptance and validation. That's why she shoplifts the mystical box, to impress her friends. They also seem to be transported to this world but we haven't seen much of them yet.
Anne joins the Planter family and has to wait 2 months to be able get through a mountain pass. The story has largely been about her living in the town and growing as a person while she waits to leave. What's a crazy plot point is we see her friend chained up and captured who has also been transported. It's a stark difference between what Anne is going through and what her friend is. It does get better for her but still a terrible situation.
I keep thinking about what Anne would be like had the roles been reversed. If her friend joined the Planter family and Anne had been captured. I think similar to her friend she would have talked her way into all sorts of things but I'm curious if she might become a worse person as that is what's hinted at for the friend.
