Fuck, I can't find this post. I had written after finishing season 1 and I forced myself to write it before season 2 so I could compare what I was thinking going into season 2 with the end.
Fuck, I don't know what happened to it.
I'll write my thoughts down again but I now know what's to come.
Boyd seems to be the main character of the show. He came with his wife and son to the town while they were going somewhere else. He was part of the military and was a person that was sent into dangerous places to build bases and communities. This means that he is the perfect person to come to the town. It's only with his arrival that the town actually begins to work together and get past the daily struggle of surviving and truly start living. Boyd is the one to find the talismans and I think this is why Father Khatri sees him as having an important role to play in getting back home.
Boyd is the sheriff of the town and the people trust him completely.
Father Khatri is a priest that comes to the town after killing a drunk who had killed his son. He is a believer and a pillar of the town. He is the one who found Boyd first and save Boyd and his family. He believes in Boyd and that there are hard decisions to be made. He wants to kill Frank but putting him in the box because that was the rule that was made. His death was terrible because he wanted his life to have meaning and he died without it meaning much. He didn't get to do anything. He died just because. The show is willing to kill off characters which is something to look out for.
Jim, Tabitha, Julie and Ethan are the family that enter the town in their RV. They get stuck and they are the people we follow into the town. They are our eyes into the weirdness.
Jade and Toby are a pair of guys that come into the town. Toby dies but Jade goes onto become one of main characters of the show. A software guy who is brilliant who had recently sold his business, he was partying and was on his way to a party when he saw the tree.
Kenny is the deputy sheriff of the town. His father has dementia and lives in the hospital while Kenny and his mom are at home. His mom runs the diner in town. Kenny looks to be an interesting character. He idolizes Boyd.
Donna is a badass. She runs colony house and is another pillar of the community. The three of them, Boyd, Father Khatri and Donna are the core members of the community and seem to handle the terribleness of the place for the people. They manager each of their own little communities as best they can. Donna especially is a loving character. Seeing her breakdown in future seasons is heartbreaking.
Ellis is Boyd's son and he lives at Colony house. He is in love with Fatima and their relationship is great. Ellis' own relationship with his father is soured because Boyd went into the forest instead of staying and helping his mentally ill wife. Abby believe they were in a dream and shot people. Boyd had gone into the forest on a resource gathering trip and he ended up finding the talismans. He however had to kill his wife when she aimed her gun at Ellis.
Fatima is the only little bit of sunshine in the entire show. She is happy and cheers everyone up throughout. Watching what she becomes by season 3 is probably the worst thing.
The monsters are terrifying, especially what they do at night. They walk around and go to windows and knock and talk to the people inside. They ask them to open the door and let them in. They are just constantly doing that. They are dressed so weirdly. The way they kill is also gory and horrifying. They don't kill you quickly but rather start feeding and slicing. They used to shriek in the forest but once the town found the talismans, they stopped. The talismans make it so the monsters don't come into an enclosure. But the talisman needs to stay on the wall. If it's on the ground, it means nothing. The talismans are the biggest things that helped. They let people begin to live.
Before the talismans, the people would have to hide and the town had created hiding places all over. People died constantly before the talismans.
One major question I still have is was Victor alone for the majority of the time. I wish someone would interrogate him and ask him how long he has been alone. People seem to constantly be showing up but his memories and dreams are tied to the first time he lost the town. I want to know how many people he had seen come and go at this point. Is the recent bunch the most people he's been around.
