I've switched from using UniVerse as my main Pick Operating System to using ScarletDME, specifically my own fork that I'm working on.
There are a few good reasons that I switched but the biggest reason is that I felt like it.
I use UniVerse at work and so using it at home made sense. I use a developer license to test things out but it requires a relicense every year. Missing it means that my data is locked up, it's still accessible but I can't use UniVerse until relicense. ScarletDME is open source and there are no licenses. This problem has now disappeared.
The other reason the switch was that I was using UniVerse to write my blog posts but the server that was serving my blog was running in ScarletDME. This meant that the file containg my blog posts couldn't be sent directly to the server. I had to export the records to a flat file and then send them to my server. Then I had a routine that import the records into the system.
This has now simplified as I run ScarletDME on both my local machine and on my server. This means that I can do a simple rsync to push my data across and not have to do anything special.
Finally, I want to start dogfooding ScarletDME and the fork that I'm working on. By using ScarletDME personally, I'm hoping to uncover more bugs and to also add more and more features.
