I've fully switched over from using my macbook as a server for my blog to a VPS in the cloud. This will hopefully simplify things like getting SSL certificates and keeping my server available without DNS issues.
It was fun having a mac server but there were a few issues. The first issue was that I was hosting from home and so the dynamic DNS was sometimes finnicky.
The mac itself had issues with trying to run nginx with brew and using certbot. Nothing really played nicely together and it wasn't set it up once and run forever, the mac required some tweaking on a regular basis.
The other issue package management with brew broke things for me but this was more my fault that I didn't read that the package I was updating had a breaking version number change.
The great thing was that by using the mac book as a server, I did get some use out of my mac. So far it's been a paperweight so there was some utility to using it as a server. I'll need to do something else now that I've switched my blog.
